One type of insurance that has become increasingly popular lately is pet insurance. This is insurance that covers things like medical treatment expenses for a person’s pet.

It is becoming more and more common for employers to offer pet insurance to their employees as an employee benefit. It is estimated that, currently, around a third of the companies on the Fortune 500 list include pet insurance among the benefits they offer employees. Why do you think this rise of pet insurance as an employee benefit is occurring?

Of course, pet insurance holders are not limited to individuals who are receiving such insurance as an employee benefit. Some individuals go out on their own and insure their pet.

As with any type of insurance policy, what exactly is covered by a pet insurance policy varies depending on what terms a given policy contains.

What opportunities do you think the increase in the popularity of pet insurance makes available to employers and insurers? What do you see as some of the biggest challenges that could arise for employers and insurers when it comes to pet insurance?

Legal issues can arise in relation to any sort of insurance policy, whether the policy be related to a home, a car, a business, a pet or something else. One type of legal issue that sometimes comes up in connection to insurance is a dispute between an insurer and a policy-holder over what things are covered by a policy and what things aren’t. When facing such a dispute, an insurer should consider having a discussion with an experienced insurance defense attorney to fully ascertain what legal options they have regarding the dispute.
