A native of Avoyelles Parish, Louisiana, Chris Villemarette, has been practicing law since 1994 after graduating from Mississippi College School of Law and being admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in 1994 and admitted to the Texas State Bar in 1995. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from Louisiana College in 1991.
Chris and his wife moved to Lafayette, Louisiana in 1995 to work for the most venerable attorney in the area and was fortunate to be trusted with complex cases and novel issues early into his practice. As a result, Chris gained a wide-ranging knowledge of the law that continues to serve him as valuable resource. Chris’ mentor encouraged him to be creative and to use the all applicable law to address a particular issue. Chris took that advise and continues to search for and present novel interpretations of the law. Consequently, many of Chris’ cases have been reviewed by the Louisiana Courts of Appeal, Louisiana Supreme Court and United States Fifth Circuit and reported for publication. Many of those cases resulted in changes in Louisiana jurisprudence. Chris has brought hundreds of cases verdict in both jury trials and bench trials. Chris’ trial experience primarily focused on cases involving insurance claims, but also included cases involving criminal law, civil rights, community property, professional liability and family law. Chris also has also presented many cases by arbitration and mediation.
Chris currently serves as the city attorney for the City of Carencro. Chris serves as a board member of the Evangeline Area Council, Scouting America. Chris previously served as an assistant Scout leader at Troop 446 in Lafayette. Chris enjoys Mardi Gras and is a member of the Krewe of Gabriel and has been a volunteer and board member of The Greater Southwest Louisiana Mardi Gras Association for the past twelve years. Chris is a member of the Carmelite Guild and the CAST Men’s Retreat Group.
Chris spends most of his time with his family. He and wife, Staci Knox Villemarette, have been married for thirty years. He and Staci are proud of their two children, Caroline and Knox. Caroline graduated from Ole Miss and received a master’s degree in biomedical science from Duke University. Knox is an Eagle Scout and is currently a junior at the University of Alabama at Birmingham majoring in music theatre.
Chris is intensely proud of his French heritage and practices speaking French at any opportunity. Chris is a raconteur who delights in recounting the history of Avoyelles Parish and some of the interesting personalities and colorful characters from Hessmer Louisiana
