Is that insurance application accurate or, well, something else?

Reportedly, about 10% of all Americans have included fraudulent information on their auto insurance applications to score a better premium rate.

That can present a personal risk, of course. If discovered, it can bring a swift claim denial and/or policy cancellation. An insurer willing to retain such a customer might decide to do so only pursuant to a materially spiked premium. Some people who engage in insurance fraud end up facing criminal charges that carry potentially draconian penalties.

Such fraudulent behavior is not only risky, but often also lacking in smarts. If junior was unquestionably behind the wheel in that injury-causing DUI accident, but not listed as an insured on the family policy, well, … ouch. An insurance investigator will likely discover that sought-to-be-hidden fact.

Notwithstanding the long odds against claim success if fraud features in a policy, many people still take their chances. We noted in a blog post from last year that, when they do so, “big negative financial ramifications” can arise for the companies that provide protective coverage for them in good faith.

Our lawyers step forward in a proactive and aggressive way to safeguard the legal rights and interests of defrauded insurers across Louisiana and even beyond.

We are motivated to do so for multiple reasons. For starters, the insurance defense attorneys at Caffery, Oubre, Campbell & Garrison in Lafayette collectively bring decades of experience to the task. We have a demonstrated record of advocacy on behalf of our diverse and valued insurance clientele, and we proudly put it to use on their behalf.

And then there is this: When insurance companies get stuck with fraudulent billings because dishonest individuals escape accountability, every insured person across the country suffers. The costs go up for everyone when some policyholders opt to cheat rather than conduct themselves honestly.

Experienced insurance defense attorneys routinely do everything in their power to ensure that doesn’t happen.
