U.S. seeing more motorcycle thefts

Motorcycle accidents are not the only thing motorcycle insurance claims can regard. Sometimes, such claims regard motorcycle thefts. Motorcycle theft claims have their own particular set of issues they can raise. Like any sort of insurance claim, disputes can have the potential to come up over a motorcycle theft claim in connection to the special issues related to that particular class of claim. Experienced insurance defense lawyers can provide insurance companies with guidance when disputes involving motorcycle theft insurance claims arise.

In recent times, motorcycle insurance companies here in the U.S. may have seen more in the way of motorcycle theft claims, as statistics indicate that motorcycle thefts have recently been going up in the nation as a whole.

According to the statistics, which were from the National Insurance Crime Bureau, the total number of reported stolen motorcycles in the U.S. for 2015 was 45,555. This total is 6 percent higher than the total from 2014. This is a reversal of a trend of drops in motorcycle thefts that the U.S. had been experiencing for nearly a decade.

Why do you think motorcycle thefts have been going up? What impacts do you think this trend will ultimately have on motorcycle insurance and the motorcycle insurance industry?

How many motorcycles were stolen here in Louisiana last year? According to the statistics, in 2015, 672 motorcycles were reported stolen in the state. The quarter that had the most reports of stolen motorcycles in the state that year was the third quarter, with 205 motorcycle thefts reported that quarter.

One wonders what will happen this year, particularly in the year’s third quarter, here in Louisiana and in other parts of the U.S. when it comes to motorcycle thefts.
